First Communion

First Communion

"At the Last Supper, on the night he was betrayed, our Savior instituted the Eucharistic sacrifice of his Body and Blood.  This he did in order to perpetuate the sacrifice of the cross throughout the ages until he should come again, and so to entrust to his beloved Spouse, the Church, a memorial of his death and resurrection: a sacrament of love, a sign of unity, a bond of charity, a Paschal banquet 'in which Christ is consumed, the mind is filled with grace, and a pledge of future glory is given to us.'"
(Catechistm of the Catholic Church 1322)

Children prepare for the Sacrament of the Eucharist during the second (2nd) grade year.  Children who attend Bishop Heelan Catholic Schools (BHCS) receive catechesis during the school day.  Children who do not attend Bishop Heelan Catholic Schools should enroll in the Religious Education Program for catechesis.  Please check the Religious Education page for more information on our program.  All children, whether attending BHCS or Religious Education, receive the sacrament in the Church, and therefore formal communication with regard to the celebration of the sacrament comes from the parish.  Children receive the sacrament in the parish at which the family is registered.

The following dates apply to all children who attend BHCS or the Religious Education Program (REP) at Sacred Heart Church and whose families are registered members of Sacred Heart Church.
